National Riesling Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 across all of the United States and in certain countries around the world. May 1st is significant as it heralds the beginning of wine month in New York and in ancient times was the celebrated “first day of summer”.

To participate in National Riesling Day, consumers are asked to visit a local winery, wine shop or grocery store and make a purchase of at least one bottle of Riesling. This activity will create a “cash mob” of sorts and will demonstrate to the world, the popularity of wine, in general and Riesling, specifically.

The first-ever Wine Tourism Day in North America will take place on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 with wineries, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses offering a variety of events to the public throughout North America. At Torrey Ridge Winery and Earle Estates Meadery 100% of the tasting fees will benefit Food Link.

At Earle Estates we will be offering Chocolate Brownies or Fudge Paired with Raspberry or Strawberry wine for $2.00. We will also be offering a tour of the winery by owner and winemaker at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. for $2.00/person

This weekend event is a great opportunity for people to experience a vast diversity of food/wine combinations. Wine is rarely consumed alone, and what specific food you eat with a given wine greatly impacts the tastiness of each. So this weekend is a terrific chance for you to sample an incredible variety of combinations and, when you find a wine/food pair that really lights up your palate, you can buy a few bottles of the wine for later, buy the locally made cheese used in that recipe, then prepare the food at home using the recipe book, and introduce your friends and family to that particularly delightful combination.
